Expat. First-and-only-time mother. Nerd.
- – -
I live on the west coast of Scotland and it’s fitting that I’m pale as a ghost – someone might mistake me for a local. I do like haggis, even the vegetarian kind.
I play online games although I’m on a hiatus induced by motherhood. EDIT: I’m currently playing Goal Line Blitz. Edit: And PMOG. And back to playing World of Warcraft. Still waiting for the “next big thing” to come along and make us turn into online semi-zombies instead of the sleep-deprived zombie roles we’re trying to perfect at the moment.
Yes. I am a nerd. Full-fledged nerd of the “I met my man online and married him” variety. Mainly it’s MMOs but every once in a blue moon something else will find its way onto my hard-drive. To take the dork status to new heights, my husband is a scientist. I think his intelligence is downright sexy. He can’t explain in any sort of detail exactly what he does or my eyes would glaze over.
And with that out of the way, I’m also a slightly obsessed Fantasy (American) Football Sports freak. I’m not terribly good but I just won the league last season and it’s fun to beat up on the guys. We religiously watch NFL every Sunday in-season while I watch my fantasy team on the laptop. I’m not slightly obsessed; I’m thinking “disturbed” is a more accurate term.
I also dabble in cooking relatively edible cuisine.
And, I play at being a brown-thumb gardener. I blame it on the weather: living in Scotland could be the reason. Apparently, cats don’t help either.
As well as those and my other drool-causing interests, I am the proud mother of a nerdspawn or at least she will be once she grows up: We’re trying all we can to ruin her from the get-go. Poor soul.

Good stuff. I have not made it up to Scotland yet, but hey, I’ve only been in England for, um. Oops. Almost 2 years. Gonna have to work on that! Clearly don’t get out enough. But hey, I hear those trains to Scotland are really reliable — um, oops again, maybe not. The wonders of National Rail…
I fear I’m a scientist too, what a life. Thus I too have pasty skin and don’t have to worry about fitting in with the locals–even here in southern England they don’t look like California girls. Thanks for stopping by, I’m always happy to find more expats to commiserate with. Drop a line anytime
Oh yes and I’m a Redskins fan too, my first live game was Redskins-Raiders at RFK in the 1980s
UK Expat, pasty skin and a Redskins fan — we’re taking over WordPress!
I’m also an American who’s emigrated…18 years ago, to Tokyo.
Sorry…forgot to mention:
My website is: http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~tokyo5/index.html
Thanks for visiting my site. And the kind words.
I added a new “Photo” blog today.

Hi
This is Mark with the ‘Hog and Apple Pie’ from breaking into tesco earlier on in the year.
I’ve just read your blog and wanted to say thanks for your support.
Cheers and all the best
Mark
Hiya Mark,
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for commenting. Meant every last word of it; Tesco made the wrong choice. I hope things are going well for you and your “Hog and Apple Pie” — perhaps one of the other supermarkets came to their senses and picked up your product? Hello Sainsburys! ; )
Thought of your product this past weekend whilst at the Farmer’s Market at Drumlanrig castle on Sunday. Had a very nice Lamb and Crab Apple pie.
Best of luck to you and hope the UK masses can enjoy your product soon.
