Yeah. I know. It’s the wrong season to be discussing egg nog and quite frankly I was shocked, SHOCKED I say, to find it on the shelf at the local Tesco. Here it be:

Egg Nog is one of the nigh on impossible items to find here in the UK – at least if you’re not in London. And, thanks to Starbucks selling Egg Nog Lattes at Christmas, I got a hankering for adding egg nog to my coffee. It’s in the International food aisle at Tesco as it’s from Jamaica. I’m pretty positive it’ll be discontinued before next Christmas rolls around. Damn, damn, damn.

I have begun a friendship with someone in the UK. She has sent a gift package and I’d like to return the favor, thinking I could send things you don’t usually see there (I’m in USA). I’ve had a hard time trying to find out what I might sent to her as a surprise. Can you help with some other impossible things to find in the UK that I can send from the US?
What an excellent question. Now I’ve really got to think hard about this, outside of the obvious egg nog shortage, let’s see…
Regional things are usually quite hard to find, like BBQ sauces and candy bars, or any other foodstuff that would be unique to your bit of the US. Like I’ve yet to find Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce here although you can now find it most places in the States and Old Bay seafood seasoning. Cornbread mix is another that I’ve got a hard time finding. Peanut butter candy is usually a good bet.
Hope I’ve been of some use. Would love to hear what you decide on!
